Hughes Ransom is a writer and director from Kansas City, Missouri, now based in Los Angeles.
Most recently, he shadowed Emmy Award–winning director Declan Lowney on the upcoming season of Ted Lasso, shot in his hometown.
His debut short, Sick Day (2024), starring Amita Rao (Adults) and James Adomian (Jimmy Kimmel Live!), screened at the Austin, San Luis Obispo, and Sun Valley Film Festivals and earned a nod in Deadline.
His scripts have been featured on The Black List platform, earning scores in the top 3 percent, and he’s written episodes for Spotify’s original podcasts Crimes of Passion and Unexplained Mysteries.
He’s worked in writers’ rooms as Aline Brosh McKenna’s showrunner’s assistant on Amazon’s half-hour comedy All Stars.
As a University of Pennsylvania grad and Fulbright scholar, Hughes explores class conflict and queer identity through absurdist tragicomedies that still manage to be funny. He promises.
His next short film, Here We Are Again, starring Eros de la Puente (Los Frikis), is targeting a 2026 festival run.
